AMTA has designed a template for an Acceptable Use Policy for mobile phones in schools.

Click here to download or print the Acceptable Use Policy template.

The template may be used as a starting point in developing an Acceptable Use Policy for mobile phones and other mobile devices (such as tablets) in your school. You can add, delete, or modify items to reflect the specific needs and standards of your school and community.

While some schools may choose to prohibit or otherwise limit the use of mobile phones by students, other schools are using mobile devices in the classroom and the policy is designed to facilitate the acceptable use of mobile phones in schools. It is therefore based on the principles of mutual responsibility and respect for others.

The policy is designed to assist in managing the safe and responsible use of mobile phones by students and involves parents as partners in assisting their children in the proper use of mobile phones and devices. It is underpinned by an overall requirement for students to exercise care and use their mobile phones and devices in a considerate manner and to be aware of situations in which others could be affected by their actions.

ASIC's MoneySmart Teaching program has some very useful digital activities for young people, parents and schools that are focussed on teaching kids how to be mobile savvy. Topics include social media, choosing a mobile plan and security. Click on the picture to access the program of activities:
